Sitting pretty right in the heart of South Bank is Baba Ganouj (pronounced baba-gah-noosh), a casual eatery where you can find authentic modern Lebanese food seven days a week.

Baba Ganouj’s food menu is comprehensive, with a long list of main plates, salads, starters and mezact to choose from, all of which have been designed for sharing and which utilise traditional methods of cooking dating back over five thousand years.

A popular, must-try dish unique to Brisbane is Baba Ganouj’s freshly baked Lebanese bread, known as saj, which is cooked to order on a dome-shaped hotplate. Diners can select from a variety of fillings such as lamb, garlic chicken and triple cheese, with your preferred filling added to the bread as it cooks – there is even some sweet dessert options available.

If you’re unsure exactly what to order or in a group (four or more people), the restaurant’s Mezza Banquet, a multi-course feast designed to share between friends, may just be perfect. The banquet features an array of some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, including a trio of dips, tabouli salad, falafel, chicken and kafta skewers and Lebanese sweet baklava and Turkish delights to finish.

Whether you opt for the banquet or simply order a la carte, there is only one way to finish a Lebanese feast and that is with Lebanese coffee and an assortment of Lebanese sweets.
